Dental Care Services for Seniors

All of our dental services are provided in the privacy, comfort,
and familiarity of the patient’s own environment.

Assessment and Diagnosis

Our foundational services focus on evaluating and documenting each patient’s oral health to ensure accurate treatment planning. Destination Dental recommends on-site oral hygiene services every three to six months, along with an annual dentist visit to ensure thorough care.

  • Our team of professionals always start by making a record of each patient’s current oral health. By charting the number of teeth and other pre-existing concerns, our team can confidently perform the proper treatment tailored to each patient’s condition at every visit.

  • During the annual visit, a licensed dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination to assess the patient’s overall oral health, identify potential issues, and create a treatment plan if necessary. As required by Florida state regulations, a licensed dentist must perform this examination within 13 months following on-site services provided by a dental hygienist.

  • We incorporate X-rays into a patient’s care plan as needed to support a thorough assessment of their oral health. These X-rays help detect issues that may not be visible during a routine examination, such as cavities, bone loss, or other underlying concerns, ensuring accurate and effective treatment planning.

Preventive Care and Maintenance

Our preventive care and maintenance services provide an opportunity to address issues such as bad breath, stained teeth, and discomfort. Through our care, we restore confidence in smiling, eating, and everyday interactions.

  • Our hygienists provide routine cleanings by gently removing plaque from the teeth and addressing tartar buildup in hard-to-reach areas. This service can be completed with or without the application of prescription-grade fluoride. For most patients, routine cleanings are recommended every three to six months.

  • Our hygienists offer thorough cleanings for both partial and full dentures. By removing stubborn stains and calculus buildup through cleaning and scaling, we ensure dentures remain in excellent condition.

  • Dental plaque is known as the film that builds up on your teeth over time from saliva, foods, and fluids. If not removed regularly, plaque hardens into tartar (dental calculus), which appears as yellow or brown deposits on the teeth and can lead to more serious oral health problems. Using hand scaling and/or a cavitron, our skilled dental hygienists can effectively remove both plaque and tartar. This results in a clean, healthy, and refreshed smile.

  • Another method for removing plaque, as well as teeth stains, is through professional polishing and flossing. Not only does polishing give your tooth enamel a smooth and glossy finish, but it also helps to freshen your breath and avoid further tooth decay. Allowing a dental professional to floss over your teeth ensures all the hard-to-reach areas are accounted for and cleaned properly.

  • Following professional polishing, our dental hygienists can apply a protective layer of prescription-grade fluoride. This treatment helps prevent cavities and alleviates tooth sensitivity, offering an added layer of defense for your teeth.

Education and Guidance

Our educational services provide tailored oral hygiene instruction for proper at-home care—equipping patients to confidently maintain their smiles between visits.

  • Our dental hygienists are registered and licensed with the latest oral hygiene instructions to ensure proper care, as well as educate patients and caregivers on the proper techniques they should be practicing in their everyday oral hygiene routine. We will show how to properly maintain the teeth at the end of every cleaning and cater specifically to each individual.

Why senior dental care matters

  • Routine senior dental care can help prevent common problems like toothaches, gum disease, tooth loss, and bad breath.

  • As you age, tooth loss doesn’t have to be an outcome you expect. When older adults keep up with their oral hygiene, they can continue to enjoy food and eat comfortably.

  • Good oral hygiene can prevent many life-threatening diseases. Scientific studies show a relationship between gum disease and stroke, heart disease, respiratory diseases, dementia, and diabetes.

  • Almost 70 percent of adults have tartar, and it builds up faster as you age. A main contributor to tooth decay and cavities, tartar can only be removed by a dental professional.
